The Building Decree distinguishes between new construction and existing construction. This distinction is important because the fire propagation for new construction and existing construction is determined according to different standards: for new construction NEN-EN 13501-1 for existing construction NEN 6065. Fire class A1 is used for non-combustible constructions, stony materials fall into this class. Fire class A2 is slightly combustible, this includes plasterboard. Fire class B, C and D are classes that are generally required for buildings, fire class B is poorly combustible, fire class D is combustible. Fire class B is, for example, the class that is required in specific escape routes that require a high degree of protection, and is also required for many facades. The Building Decree states (in existing buildings) that instead of fire class 2 fire class B and for fire class 3 fire class C may be used and instead of fire class 4 fire class D. Although this implies that there is a relationship, the fire classes according to NEN-EN 13501-1 and NEN 6065 are not fully comparable with each other because the test methods differ. There are even constructions that, for example, achieve fire class 1 (the best class based on the Dutch NEN 6065) but based on the European method (NEN-EN 13501-1 that we must use for new buildings) do not get further than fire class E (is so bad that it may not even be used). An exception to this is a facade that borders on an (extra) protected escape route. In that case, the facade must comply with fire class C.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/section><br \/>\n<section  class='av_textblock_section av-m3n6p9l2-d0da7fdcccc11d57441c33d6c679a74a'   itemscope=\"itemscope\" itemtype=\"https:\/\/schema.org\/CreativeWork\" ><div class='avia_textblock'  itemprop=\"text\" ><h2>Requirements for buildings with more than two floors<\/h2>\n<p>For buildings with more than two floors (floor intended for persons higher than 5 metres above the measurement level), the lower 2.5 metres of the facade must meet fire class B for new construction. This requirement is stricter than the basic requirement for fire class D. For ground-level homes and existing construction, no stricter requirement applies than the basic requirement for fire class D (new construction) or 4 (existing construction).<\/p>\n<p>Facades that are higher than 13 metres must also comply with fire class B for new construction.
